6 Breakfast Foods, that we know little about …..

Breakfast the most important meal of the day. They say it sets you up for the entire day. But are some of the commonly marketed Breakfast items in the supermarkets really healthy for you? Lets find out:

    1. Cereals are the most popular Breakfast item but are they any good?
      Cereals are actually not healthy. They are loaded with sugar and are very processed foods.  Studies have been found that eating a high sugar meal first thing in the morning causes your insulin to spike leading to a craving for a similar high calorie meal just a few hours later. This leads to over eating and may cause weight gain and also in some cases  diabetes.
    2. What about Smoothies?
      Smoothies are a great grab-and-go in the mornings, if you are short on time in the mornings. Green smoothies are a great way to get your fruit and veg fix for the morning, plenty of fiber, plenty of hydration. The benefits are immense.   1. The Humble Egg
    Egg has many health benefits. Some believe it to reduce the risks of heart disease and stroke. It is an immensely high source of protein and also a good source of healthy fats. Have an omelette in the mornings to start your day the right way.
  2. How Awesome is Oatmeal?
    Eating Oatmeal for breakfast helps with weight loss. Oatmeal keeps you fuller for longer and also helps you burn fat when you exercise afterwards. Oatmeal with some yogurt, chia seeds and nuts …… delicious!
  3. How good are Breakfast Cereal Bars?
    Just like Breakfast cereal , the cereal bar is also a quick and easy way to get your breakfast on the go. It is also in many kids lunch boxes as a healthy treat. But Cereal bars have way too much sugar in them , sometimes 3 teaspoon fulls in each bar.
  4. Breakfast Savory Muffins, yay or nay?
    Definitely a yay! Savory muffins are a great lunch box idea. They are a great way to incorporate some vegetables. But go easy on the cheese to keep the fat levels down. My favorite is zucchini corn and thyme muffins. They freeze well too, so make a batch and freeze some for later.

So there you have it Breakfast truly is the most awesome way to start your day. But watch out for some seemingly Healthy foods and swap it for the real good stuff!
